PTE Writing
PTE Writing, part of the combined Speaking and Writing module (50–60 minutes) in the 2025 PTE Academic exam, assesses your ability to write in English. It includes 2 question types and contributes to both Writing and Speaking scores.
PTE Writing Time
The PTE Speaking and Writing section in the 2025 PTE Academic exam is approximately 50–60 minutes long. You get a fixed 20 minutes to write an Essay and 10 minutes per Summarize Written Text question. You may have 1–2 Summarize Written Text questions in the exam.
Important: In the 2025 PTE Academic exam, the Speaking and Writing sections are combined into a single module, contributing to both Speaking and Writing scores.

1. Summarize Written Text (SWT): In this PTE task for the 2025 exam, write a one-sentence summary of a passage after reading the text.
- Prompt Length: Text up to 300 words
- Skills Assessed: Reading and Writing
- Time to Answer: 10 minutes
- Write a single sentence of 5–75 words, including the main points of the passage.
- The word count at the bottom of the screen tracks the number of words you write.
- Use the cut, copy, and paste buttons to construct your summary.
- Summarize Written Text is scored based on 4 parameters: Content, Form, Grammar, and Vocabulary
